BUT THAT’S NOT REALITY
On a coaching call yesterday, my client kept returning to “but that’s not reality” when I offered up different ways to think about the challenging situations in her life.
I’ve been thinking about it almost constantly since we talked.
I believe there are times in our life where we just have to “give in” to the present moment and whatever that reality looks like in order to get through to the other side.
That’s what accepting the Now means. Whatever the reality is, IS the way things are supposed to be. And if that means it sucks, it sucks. Lean into it. Give it attention.
Awareness is being present. When we are present we create space around whatever it is that sucks. This allows us to objectively examine our situation and plot a forward moving path out of discomfort.
I see this all the time in my massage practice. My massage clients come to me because they have some physical discomfort or pain.
When I find the problem, I often find tight, stiff, stuck, and guarded muscles. My job as a manual therapist is to help guide the body to a state of relaxation; a neutral state of being. If there’s a lot of pain to my methodology, the tissue will resist release. It won’t let go. Forcing won’t work in the end game, and won’t produce long term results.
But if I take the time to bring awareness and attention in a safe and pain free manner, the muscle will let go and release. This is the beginning of the healing process.
Whether an emotional state or a physical state like pain, if we resist and fight against it, it will continue to exist.
Not until we become aware of our state of being and accept and relax into it, will any new possible realities occur.[x_share title=”Share this Post” facebook=”true” twitter=”true” google_plus=”true” linkedin=”true” pinterest=”true”]
